Bill was appointed Managing Director of the Lions Eye Institute in July 2019 and has worked as both a clinician and a researcher at the Institute for more than 25 years. In the Managing Director role, Bill’s vision is to guide the restructure of the LEI’s clinical management systems; expand its research agenda and capacity; deepen the linkages between clinicians and researchers; and grow the organisation’s community outreach in both ophthalmic practice and education.
Bill specialises in glaucoma treatments and research and was part of a team of Lions Eye Institute researchers who developed a new surgical intervention for glaucoma which is now in worldwide use. He is also consultant ophthalmologist at Royal Perth and Perth Children’s Hospitals; Professor at UWA’s Centre for Ophthalmology and Visual Science; and Co-Director of the LEI McCusker Glaucoma Centre. He sits on the Boards of the Lions Eye Institute and the John Fawcett Foundation.
